An under-desk treadmill, usually sold as a walking pad, is a low, slow treadmill with no tall console or handrail. You slide it under a standing desk, walk at an easy pace while you read email or sit in on a call, then roll it out of the way. In a small apartment that last part matters as much as the walking: the pad has to fit the floor in front of your desk, clear the desk once it's raised, and go somewhere when you're done, ideally without the people downstairs hearing every step.

We picked three walking pads that suit a small space in different ways: one that folds in half, one that's light enough to slide under a bed or sofa, and one with a built-in incline and a higher weight rating. We haven't tested these hands-on. Specs come from each Amazon listing, checked on Oct. 30, 2026 (and UREVO's own product page where noted), and every pick has a video showing the same model we link. This guide is part of our how to set up a small home office series, at the step for choosing a desk you can stand at.

TL;DR: Our top picks

  1. Best for folding away: WalkingPad Z1 Foldable Under-Desk Treadmill (Check current price). Folds in half from 56.1 to 31.8 inches long, so it stores in a closet or beside the desk.
  2. Lightest to move: Sunny Health & Fitness Treadpad 100 Smart Walking Treadmill (Check current price). A 45.3-pound, 4.3-inch-tall pad that ships fully assembled, for walking at up to 3.7 mph.
  3. Best for incline and a higher weight limit: UREVO CyberPad for Office Smart Walking Pad (Check current price). Auto incline up to 14%, a 300-pound rating on the listing and a 2.5 HP brushless motor.

How to choose an under-desk treadmill for a small apartment

1. Measure the floor in front of the desk, and where it will live

A walking pad needs its full length free in front of the desk while you use it, plus a little room behind your heels. The three here run from about 43 to 56 inches long and about 22 to 23 inches wide. Check that length against the space between your desk and the bed, sofa or wall behind you, and keep it out of a door swing. Then decide where it goes between uses. The WalkingPad Z1 folds in half to 31.8 x 22 inches. The Sunny and the UREVO are one-piece pads, so you need a full-length spot: under a bed or sofa with enough clearance, against a wall, or simply left under the desk. Measure the gap under your bed or sofa before counting on it; the pads are 4.1 to 6 inches tall, and the Z1 is 5.4 inches tall folded.

2. Check your standing desk height with the pad underneath

Standing on a walking pad lifts you by the height of its deck, so your desk has to go up by about the same amount to keep your elbows level with the keyboard. Find the height you normally stand at, add the pad's height (4.1 inches for the Z1, 4.3 for the Sunny, about 6 for the UREVO), and check that your desk's maximum height covers it, with the monitor still at eye level. Taller people should check this first: the Autonomous Desk Core from our small standing desks guide goes up to 47.5 inches including the top, and other compact frames in that guide top out lower or higher. A fixed-height desk won't work for walking unless it already sits at your standing height. Our small standing desks guide lists every height range.

3. Noise and the neighbors downstairs

Motor noise is only part of it. In an apartment, the thud of footsteps through the floor usually travels further than the hum of the belt. A few things help: put a dense treadmill mat or rubber mat under the pad, walk at an easy speed rather than a brisk one, and keep sessions to hours when your neighbors are up. UREVO is the only maker here that gives a number: under 35 dB for the motor, by its own testing. Treat any decibel figure as a best case, since footwear, speed and your floor change what people hear. If you rent, check your lease for rules on exercise equipment.

4. Weight limit and belt size

Stay within the listed maximum user weight with some room to spare. The Z1 is rated for 242 pounds and the Sunny for 245; the UREVO listing says 300 pounds and UREVO's own page says 400. Belt size decides how natural your stride feels: walking pads are narrower than gym treadmills, around 16 inches wide on these three, which is fine for walking but leaves less room to drift while you look at a screen.

5. Speed: walking pads are for walking

These are walking machines. The Sunny tops out at 3.7 mph and the Z1 and UREVO at 4 mph, which UREVO describes as light jogging pace. None has a full handrail, and most people keep to an easy pace, often around 1 to 2 mph, while they type or talk. If you want to run, you need a full treadmill with a longer deck and a handrail, which doesn't fit under a desk.

6. Floor type

Walking pads sit low, so they need a firm, level floor and space for the motor to breathe. UREVO says not to use the CyberPad on carpet and recommends a mat, and the Z1 review video says the same about long-pile carpet. A mat also protects a wood floor and helps with noise. If you use a rolling chair at the same desk, a chair mat and a treadmill mat usually take turns in the same spot.

The picks, in detail

Best for folding away

WalkingPad Z1 Foldable Under-Desk Treadmill

Video: Fitness Flo on YouTube. A review of the gray WalkingPad Z1, the same color as the listing we link.

Who it's for: People with no spare floor or under-bed space, who want a pad that folds small and stands against a wall or slides into a closet.

The WalkingPad Z1 is a folding walking pad from KingSmith. Open, the Amazon listing puts it at 56.1 inches long, 22 inches wide and 4.1 inches tall, the lowest deck here. It folds in half to 31.8 x 22 inches and 5.4 inches tall, which is the main reason to pick it for a small apartment. It weighs 50 pounds, runs from 1 to 4 mph on a brushless motor, comes with a remote, and is rated for users up to 242 pounds. The belt is 47.6 inches long.

The trade-off is the longest footprint when it's open, so measure the floor in front of your desk first. When we checked on Oct. 30, it was in stock, shipped by Amazon and sold by KingSmith's WalkingPad store. We link the gray Z1, the color in the video, which is a review whose description links to this listing.

  • Lowest deck here (4.1")
  • Brushless motor, remote included

Cons

Lightest to move

Sunny Health & Fitness Treadpad 100 Smart Walking Treadmill

Video: Sunny Health & Fitness on YouTube. Sunny's own 57-second look at the black Treadpad 100 (SF-T724064) and its SunnyFit app connection.

Who it's for: People who will move the pad in and out every day, and want something light enough to slide under a sofa or bed.

Sunny Health & Fitness's Treadpad 100 (model SF-T724064) is the lightest pick at 45.3 pounds. The listing gives it as 49.2 inches long, 22 inches wide and 4.3 inches tall, with a 41.1 x 16.1-inch walking deck. It has a 1 HP motor, runs from 0.5 to 3.7 mph and is rated for users up to 245 pounds. It comes fully assembled with a remote and a safety key, and connects over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to Sunny's SunnyFit app. Sunny lists a 3-year warranty on the frame and 180 days on other parts.

It doesn't fold, so it needs a full-length spot when you're not using it, but at 4.3 inches tall and 45 pounds it's the easiest of the three to slide under furniture with enough clearance. Its top speed is the lowest here, which is fine for walking at a desk and not for jogging. When we checked on Oct. 30, it was in stock and shipped by Amazon. The video is Sunny's own short look at this black SF-T724064.

Pros

  • Lightest here (45.3 lb)
  • Ships fully assembled
  • 3-year frame warranty (listing)

Cons

  • Doesn't fold
  • Top speed 3.7 mph
  • Short brand video, not a full review

Best for incline and a higher weight limit

UREVO CyberPad for Office Smart Walking Pad

Video: Adrian Reviews It on YouTube. A review of the silver UREVO CyberPad covering setup, the auto incline and the app.

Who it's for: Heavier users, or anyone who wants incline for harder walks between work sessions, with a standing desk that goes high enough.

UREVO's CyberPad for Office adds an automatic incline of up to 14%, set from the remote or UREVO's app, on a 2.5 HP brushless motor that the listing says runs at under 35 dB. Amazon lists it at 43 x 23 inches and 6 inches tall; UREVO's own page gives 42.9 x 22.8 x 6.3 inches, a 39.4 x 16.5-inch walking area and 0.6 to 4 mph. The listing rates it for users up to 300 pounds, and UREVO's page says 400. It weighs 63 pounds, the heaviest here, and has a 12-month warranty on the listing.

Two things to plan for in a small space. It's the tallest pad here, so your standing desk has to go about 6 inches above your usual standing height, and the incline lifts the front further. And UREVO says not to use it on carpet, so budget for a mat. UREVO sells a handrail separately; it isn't in the box. When we checked on Oct. 30, the silver version was in stock and sold and shipped by Amazon. The video is a review whose link opens this listing and shows the silver CyberPad.

Pros

  • Auto incline up to 14%
  • Highest weight rating (300 lb listing)
  • Shortest footprint (about 43")

Cons

  • Heaviest here (63 lb)
  • Tallest deck (about 6")
  • Not for carpet (UREVO)

Which walking pad for which apartment

  • Studio or one-bedroom with no spare floor: the WalkingPad Z1, which folds to 31.8 inches long.
  • You'll slide it under the bed or sofa every day: the Sunny Treadpad 100, the lightest and one of the lowest here. Measure the gap under the furniture first.
  • You're over about 240 pounds, or want incline: the UREVO CyberPad for Office, if your desk goes high enough.
  • Upstairs apartment: whichever pad you pick, put a dense mat under it and keep the speed easy. See the noise section above.
  • Desk in a bedroom: check the walkway to the bed with the pad out. Our small bedroom desk setup guide has the clearances for each layout.

The desk, cables and the rest of the setup

A walking pad only works with a desk that goes high enough. If you don't have one yet, start with our best small standing desks guide; the Autonomous Desk Core there pairs well with a walking pad, with a 48 x 24-inch top and a 29.4 to 47.5-inch height range. If you need a desk for a tight room first, see best desks for small spaces. Keep cords well away from the belt: route the desk's power and the pad's cord along the wall, and see cable management under a small or standing desk for keeping cables off the floor. When you sit back down, an under-desk footrest takes the pad's place.

For the rest of the room, from picking the spot and the desk to light and storage, see our step-by-step guide to setting up a small home office.

FAQ

Will an under-desk treadmill fit under my standing desk?

Check two things: floor space and height. The pads here are about 43 to 56 inches long and 22 to 23 inches wide, so measure the floor in front of your desk. Then add the pad's height (4.1 to about 6 inches) to your usual standing desk height and make sure your desk goes that high.

Are walking pads too loud for an apartment?

The motor is usually quieter than the footsteps. Footfall noise travels through the floor to the unit below, so use a dense mat under the pad, walk at an easy speed and keep to reasonable hours. Only UREVO gives a decibel figure (under 35 dB by its own testing), and real noise depends on your floor and shoes.

Can I run on an under-desk treadmill?

Not really. These top out at 3.7 to 4 mph, which is a brisk walk or a light jog at most, and they have no full handrail. For running, you need a full-size treadmill.

What speed should I walk at while working?

Slowly. Many people find an easy pace of about 1 to 2 mph comfortable for typing and talking. Save faster speeds and the UREVO's incline for breaks when you are not using the keyboard.

Can I put a walking pad on carpet?

It is better on a firm, level floor or a mat. UREVO says not to use the CyberPad on carpet and recommends a mat, and long-pile carpet can block a pad's motor vents and make it less stable.

Did you test these under-desk treadmills?

No. We compared the Amazon listings and UREVO's own product page, and watched each product video. See How We Research.

About this guide

We looked for under-desk treadmills sold to US buyers that suit a small apartment, each with a real product video that shows the same model we link. Specs come from each product's Amazon listing, retrieved on Oct. 30, 2026, plus UREVO's own product page where noted. We left out four from our first shortlist. The WalkingPad C2 in the review video is white, and that listing, along with the other C2 listings we found, was currently unavailable, so we picked the newer WalkingPad Z1 instead. The UREVO 2-in-1 is no longer sold in the version its review video shows, according to the video's own description. For the Goplus 2-in-1, the link in its review video no longer works, and the reviewed unit has no Bluetooth or app, unlike the listing we had shortlisted. We dropped Sperax walking pads because the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warned consumers in April 2026 to stop using them, citing fall, burn and fire hazards. We did not test these products hands-on and don't publish star ratings of our own.
