An L-shaped desk sounds like a big-room desk, but the small ones are often the best way to fit a real workspace into a small room. A straight desk wants one long, clear wall. A small L-shaped desk splits that length across two shorter walls in a corner, so you get room for a monitor on one side and a laptop, notebook or printer on the other, in a spot that would otherwise stay empty.
The catch is that "small" L-desks still range a lot in size. We picked four, from 47 inches along each wall to 63 inches, two fixed-height and two sit-stand, and compared them on the numbers that decide whether one fits: the length of each side, how deep each side is, and the height. We haven't tested these desks hands-on. The specs come from each Amazon listing and the makers' own pages, checked on Oct. 22, 2026. This guide is part of our desks for small spaces series; for planning the rest of the room, see how to set up a small home office.

- Best for a monitor setup: Mr IRONSTONE L-Shaped Desk 50.8" (LD01) (Check current price). 50.8 inches along each wall, only 18.2 inches deep, with a monitor shelf and a 350 lb listed load.

Size and fit, drawn to scale
How to choose a small L-shaped desk
1. Measure both walls from the corner
An L-shaped desk needs two clear runs of wall. Measure from the corner along each wall to the first thing in the way: a door frame or the arc of a swinging door, a window sill, a radiator, a closet door or an outlet you need to reach. Both numbers have to beat the desk's two sides. In this guide they run from 47.2 inches each way (VIVO E1L) and 48 inches each way (SHW) to 63 inches on the long side of the FEZIBO, which is 47.3 inches on the other.
2. Check the depth of each side
Depth is what takes floor space away from your chair and walkway. The Mr IRONSTONE and VIVO desks are shallow, at 18.2 and 18.7 inches on each side. SHW lists 20 inches on one side and 16 inches on the other, so the deeper side is the one for a monitor and keyboard. A shallow desk is fine for a laptop. With a monitor, it helps to put the screen on a shelf or a monitor arm so the keyboard has room in front of it.
3. Leave room for the chair
The chair sits in the inside corner of the L and needs room to roll back. Plan on about 3 feet of clear floor behind the desk edge. If that space is also the path to the door or the bed, a shallow desk and a compact office chair make a big difference.
4. Fixed height or sit-stand?
The SHW and Mr IRONSTONE desks are fixed at 28 and 29.5 inches, need no outlet and are the simplest to build. The VIVO E1L and the FEZIBO are electric sit-stand desks. VIVO's single-motor frame tops out at 46.5 inches; FEZIBO's three-motor frame goes from 27 to 48 inches, which suits taller people better. Our small standing desks guide covers straight sit-stand desks if the corner turns out to be too tight.
5. Decide which side the return goes on
The return is the shorter or second arm of the L. Put it where it won't block a door, a window or a heater. Mr IRONSTONE says its monitor shelf can go on the left or right, and VIVO's E1L can be set up either way. Check the listing before you order if your corner only works one way round.
The picks, in detail
SHW Mission 48 x 48 L-Shape Desk
Who it's for: Anyone who wants a simple, no-frills L-desk for a laptop and one monitor in a 4-foot corner.
SHW's Mission L-desk is the plainest pick here, and that's the point. It's 48 inches along each wall and 28 inches high, with a powder-coated steel frame and an engineered wood top. SHW lists the two sides at 20 and 16 inches deep, so put the monitor and keyboard on the 20-inch side and use the 16-inch side for a laptop, notebooks or a printer. There are no shelves or drawers to get in the way of your knees.
The listing gives a 110.2-pound (50 kg) weight capacity, the lowest here, so it suits a laptop, one or two monitors and paperwork rather than heavy gear. SHW lists a 5-year limited warranty. The video is an owner's review after two years of use, which is more useful than most unboxing videos for a desk this simple.
Pros
- Compact 48" x 48" footprint
- Open underneath; no shelves in the way
- 5-year limited warranty (listing)
Cons
- 110.2 lb capacity, the lowest here

Who it's for: People who want two full work surfaces and a raised spot for a monitor, in a corner with about 51 inches of wall each way.
The Mr IRONSTONE LD01 is one of the best-known budget L-desks on Amazon. Each side is 50.8 inches long and 18.2 inches deep, and the desk is 29.5 inches high. It comes with a separate monitor shelf that Mr IRONSTONE says can be mounted on the left or right, which lifts the screen and leaves the desktop in front of it for a keyboard. That helps a lot on an 18.2-inch-deep top.
The frame uses X-shaped steel legs and the top is P2 MDF in three pieces. The Amazon listing says it supports up to 350 pounds, the most of the fixed-height picks here. The shallow depth is a plus in a small room, since it leaves more floor for the chair, but it's tight for a large monitor without the shelf. The video is a 17-minute independent review that includes the full assembly.
Pros
- Monitor shelf included, left or right
- Only 18.2" deep on each side
- 350 lb listed load
Cons
- Needs 50.8" along both walls

Who it's for: People who want to stand part of the day in a small corner, and mostly work on a laptop or one monitor.
VIVO's E1L is also our pick for small sit-stand corner desks, and it's the smallest L-shaped standing desk we've found with full specs. It's 47.2 inches along each wall, each side is 18.7 inches deep (21.2 inches at the corner), and the electric single-motor frame moves from 28.5 to 46.5 inches with three memory presets. VIVO rates it for 154 pounds.
The trade-offs are the 0.5-inch-thick top and the 46.5-inch maximum height, which may be short for tall users. VIVO also sells a 55 x 55-inch version with 23.6-inch-deep sides. We cover both in more detail in our corner desks guide.

Who it's for: People with one long wall (over 5 feet) who want a sit-stand L with room for two monitors and some storage.
FEZIBO's 63-inch L is the biggest desk in this guide, at 63 inches along one wall and 47.3 inches along the other, so it only suits a small room with one long wall. In return, you get the most features: three motors (one in each leg), a 27- to 48-inch height range with three presets and anti-collision, and a listed 330-pound capacity. A raised unit with three drawers, each 16.6 inches long according to FEZIBO, sits at the back of the desktop and works as a monitor stand, and lockable casters let you roll the desk out to reach cables.
The reviewer's own link went to the rustic brown version, which wasn't buyable when our research was done, so we link the black desk shown in the video. FEZIBO also makes it in white and light walnut. Check that your long wall is at least 63 inches and that the desk can sit where the return won't block a door.
Pros
- Widest height range here (27"–48")
- Three motors, 330 lb listed capacity
- Drawers and monitor shelf built in
- Lockable casters
Cons
- Largest here (63" x 47.3")
- Needs a power outlet
- Heaviest to move and build

Check price at Amazon (opens in a new tab)Which small L-shaped desk for which room
- Small bedroom corner: the SHW 48 x 48 or the VIVO E1L if you want to stand.
- Monitor plus laptop: the Mr IRONSTONE, with the monitor on its shelf and the laptop on the other arm.
- Two monitors and a long wall: the FEZIBO 63-inch.
- Less than 4 feet each way: skip the L. A corner workstation like the IKEA MICKE in our corner desks guide, or a wall-mounted desk, will fit better.
Make a small L-shaped desk work
Most of the desk's floor is in the corner, which is the hardest part to reach, so use it for things you touch least: a lamp, a printer, a desk organizer or a speaker. Keep cables tidy along both walls with the ideas in our cable management guide, and use the space under the return for a rolling cart or drawer unit. For lighting, a clamp lamp at the corner lights both arms of the L.
FAQ
What is the smallest L-shaped desk?
Of the desks in this guide, the VIVO E1L is the smallest at 47.2 inches along each wall, and it is also sit-stand. The SHW Mission L is 48 x 48 inches and fixed-height. For anything smaller, a square corner workstation usually fits better than an L.
Is an L-shaped desk good for a small room?
Often, yes. It uses a corner that would otherwise stay empty and splits the desk length across two walls. Pick a shallow one (about 18 to 20 inches deep) and leave about 3 feet of floor behind the desk for the chair.
How much space do I need for a small L-shaped desk?
At least the length of each side along the two walls: 47 to 51 inches each way for the smaller picks here, and 63 by 47.3 inches for the FEZIBO. Add room for the chair to roll back, roughly 3 feet from the desk edge.
Can I get a small L-shaped standing desk?
Yes. The VIVO E1L (47.2 x 47.2 inches, 28.5 to 46.5 inches high) and the FEZIBO 63-inch L (27 to 48 inches) are both electric sit-stand desks.
What is the difference between a corner desk and an L-shaped desk?
Every L-shaped desk is a corner desk, but some corner desks are a single square or triangular piece with shelves, like the IKEA MICKE corner workstation. See our corner desks guide for both types.
Did you test these desks?
No. We compared the Amazon listings and maker specs. See How We Research.
About this guide
We looked for L-shaped desks sold to US buyers whose two sides are no longer than about 5 feet, with both fixed-height and sit-stand options, each with a real product video shown in its section. Specs for the SHW, Mr IRONSTONE and FEZIBO desks come from their Amazon listings and the makers' pages, retrieved on Oct. 22, 2026; the FEZIBO drawer length is from FEZIBO's site. The VIVO E1L's specs come from VIVO's product page, checked on Oct. 21, 2026. We left out a 58-inch GreenForest L-desk because we couldn't confirm that its Amazon listing matched the desk in its video, and Coleshome's 66-inch desk, which is too large for most small rooms. We did not test these desks hands-on and don't publish star ratings of our own.
